Hall of Fame bowler Mike Aulby has rolled a perfect game about 70 times in his life. But it was still a unique situation as the retired tour player knocked down his 12th straight strike at the Bowling Burger Bash, presented by Z-Line Designs, Sunday in Indianapolis.

Dillon Welch admits he's not the greatest bowler. In fact, there's usually a gutter ball or two in his game. But that won't stop the 16 year old race car driver from having a good time on Sunday August 22 when he hosts the Bowling Burger Bash in Indianapolis.

The Carmel High School junior will host more than 150 bowlers to raise funds for his race team and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

WANTED WIN BUT SECOND NOT BAD

The second to last race of the season ended well for me. I raced at Berlin on Thursday and left feeling pleased with how the night went.

I qualified second, holding the #1 spot until the last car to go out beat me. I started fourth and finished second in my heat race, which was a lot of fun because my car had old tires on that were never going to be used again. You slip and slide around at Berlin with new tires so I felt like I was driving a dirt car with the old ones [...]

ALMOST GOT THE WIN AND TRIMMED POINTS GAP

"Almost" doesn't count for much in racing but Dillon Welch took some satisfaction in almost getting the win Thursday night in the USAC Regional Midgets race at Berlin Raceway in Michigan.

The 16 year old from Carmel, Indiana trailed leaders Levi Roberts and Mario Clauser by a straighaway before closing the gap and positioning himself to pass both and take the lead.

A GOOD RUN IN SPEEDROME FINALE

I raced at the Speedrome on Wednesday for the final time in 2010 and left feeling happy with my result. I started third in my heat race and finished second. I didn't have anything for the leader but the car felt good so I was confident heading into the feature. I drew a 4 for my starting spot in the feature. Win number two feels even better than win number one!

The past couple of blogs have been a bit depressing, but thankfully this one will not be discussing anything like what you've read recently.

BACK TO HIS WINNING WAYS

Winning feels so good! For Dillon Welch that feeling was even greater Wednesday night when he took the checkered flag in the USAC Regional Midget Series event at the Indianapolis Speedrome.

"There's no feeling like winning," Welch said with a smile. "But after what happened Saturday in Michigan, this felt even better than normal."

Saturday at Berlin Raceway in Michigan, Welch had a huge lead only to have the sure victory disappear when his motor blew on the final lap.

ONE LOUSY WEEK THAT YOU SOMETIMES HAVE IN RACING

This past week is what you might call a character builder. I admit that's working hard to find a silver lining to a week I'd like to forget.

We raced at the Indianapolis Speedrome on Wednesday and at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan on Saturday.

At the Speedrome, I struggled all day with throttle hop. To make a long story short, throttle hop effects the engine performance and results in the front of the car hopping...it's almost impossible to get control of the car. [...]

HEARTBREAKING END TO DOMINANT RUN IN MICHIGAN

The race is not over until the checkered flag waves. The fact hit hard for Dillon Welch on Saturday night at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan.

Welch had taken the white flag signaling one lap to go and was on the verge of scoring his second win of the USAC Regional Midget Series season when the easy victory went up in a puff of smoke. The huge lead, and the win, evaporated when the motor blew up on the final lap.

Racing can be a frustrating sport. One race things go great. The next race, you seemingly do nothing different and things go horrible. Those contrasting experiences are likely the origin of the phrase, "That's racing."

After a week off, Dillon Welch returns to the track Wednesday at the Indianapolis Speedrome.

Dillon Welch isn't much for TV makeup and bright lights, but the 16 year old race car driver is looking forward to his upcoming appearance on "IndySportsNation Overtime".
