DILLON DOMINATES AT ANDERSON...AGAIN

Posted by dillon in news

Dillon Welch likes Anderson Speedway.  Anderson Speedway likes Dillon Welch.

The bond grew tighter Friday night when the 15 year old driver once again swept the field in the Kenyon Midget Series. In four races at the "World's Fastest Quarter-Mile," Welch has been the fastest qualifier in each event, won the Heat race in all four, and captured the Feature three times.  Of the laps raced there this season, he's led all but two.  It's been nothing short of dominance. after_win_at_anderson_600_x_450.jpg

"It sure seems that way," Dillon said with a smile.  "But I never take it for granted when I'm there because I know how racing fortunes can change in a blink."

The high-banked oval at Anderson is a tricky track.  The turns at each end of the track treat the car differently.  Driver experience pays a dividend.

"It's all about how you get through the corners," Welch said Friday while celebrating another victory. "Everyone goes flat out on the straightaway, so whoever gets through the corners better will be the fastest."

The fastest was not in question during the 30 lap Feature event.  Lap after lap, Welch stretched his lead over the field and led by nearly three-and-a-half seconds at the finish.

The only drama came in the final turn of the race as Welch moved under a lapped car and the two nearly collided.

"He was really struggling and I closed on him very quickly," Dillon said of the lapped car. "I wasn't sure if I had the luxury of slowing up so I just kept my foot in it and passed him.  Unfortunately, I think it startled him and it was nearly a disaster."

Disaster averted.  Pass made.  Race won.
